We surveyed 400 office workers on which mug they hate the most. The results are unanimous.

By repadmin ·

In the spring of 2026, we asked 400 office workers a simple question: which mug in the break room do you hate the most? The question was designed to be frivolous. The responses were not.

Eighty-three percent named the same mug. It reads: “But First, Coffee.” It has been in that break room since 2022. Nobody bought it. Nobody claimed it. And yet, there it is, every morning, aggressively present.

The Data

What we found, however, was not just mug hatred. It was a taxonomy of office object grievance that had never been formally documented. The mug was just the entry point.

The second most hated item was a motivational poster. The third was a specific chair that “makes a sound.” We have redacted the sound, but those who were present will know.

We present these findings not as a criticism of the people who brought these items into shared spaces, but as a service: a catalog of objects that are doing low-grade psychic damage, daily, without comment.

You’re welcome.
